It's official: we now live in a Banana Republic. This particular quote I found quite breathtaking:
However, Lord Goldsmith consulted the prime minister, the defence secretary, foreign secretary, and the intelligence services, and they decided that "the wider public interest" "outweighed the need to maintain the rule of law".

Wow, it's been a tough few weeks. Eleanor is still not sleeping in the night for more than a couple of hours and now Matthew has discovered how to escape from his room he keeps visiting us in the night too. We have tried putting a child gate on his door and leaving him to cry but he tries everything to get attention. His latest weapon is "I've got a dirty nappy!" almost as if he knows that's something we can't ignore. He's a smart boy. The other favourite is to throw his duvet on the floor so we have to come and put it back (even though he can do it himself I'm sure).

Tina is almost at breaking point with tiredness and stress because she bears the brunt of the nighttime wakings. Tonight though for the first time ever Eleanor went to bed at 7.30 and stayed there. Matthew's stayed there too (so far) so we actually had an evening to ourselves.

I think Eleanor will be crawling soon. She rolled over for the first time last Friday and today she did it a few times. She is such a party girl, loves to stay up late and chat - I'm sure she wants to crawl just so she can come over and see what's happening.

We went to Matthew's Nursery Christmas party this afternoon. Great fun. He was wearing a snowman's outfit that Tina made. I contributed a hat which Tina started and I finished off. I didn't realise she was just playing about with the hat, I thought it was meant to be that tall so Matthew ended up looking like something out of Oliver Twist! Still he kept both hat and costume on and stayed with the other children most of the time (although he was the noisiest, naturally). We told everyone else that Matthew had made his own outfit :)
